Joplin City Council to meet Monday night
Longtime citizen, fallen police officers to be honored
The Joplin City Council meets Monday night.
Among items on the agenda will be a special presentation to honor Mrs. Betty Smith of Joplin, a longtime resident and representative of Joplin’s Black Community.
Citizen Donna Bray is scheduled to speak about a demolish order made by the Building Board that would tear down the home she lives in now.
Also, resolutions will be entered to honor Joplin Police officers Jake Reed and Ben Cooper who were killed on the job in 2022 and to recognize officer Timothy Nielson who was fatally injured on the job in 2004 by naming bridges after them.
The meeting gets underway at 6 p.m. in Council Chambers in City Hall at 602 S. Main Street.
