Carl Junction Mayor clears up concerns over Administrator’s salary process
Over the last few days, the NewsTalk KZRG newsroom has received calls from Carl Junction residents.
They have expressed concern that City Administrator Steve Lawver supposedly has the ability to give himself pay raises without any oversight.
But Carl Junction Mayor Mark Powers says that’s not the case at all.
“The City Administrator’s salary is recommended to the City Council by the Budget Committee,” Powers stated. “Then a salary is set by Ordinance by the Council.”
When asked if he feels that is an effective and appropriate way of setting the City Administrator’s salary, Powers said he feels it is because the elected City Alderman are the ones who decide on the final figure.
Mayor Powers says the City Administrator is actually a good value for Carl Junction.
“He does an excellent job and, due to the size of our city without the staff a larger city has, the Administrator has more tasks he must do on a daily basis.”
Carl Junction City Administrator Steve Lawver’s salary has been set at $91,161.18 for the year.
City salaries were established as of May 1st.
