Retired couple sees property assessment increase considerably since 2021

What would you say if your property value increased significantly? 

A retired couple in the Kansas City area found out that the value of their property north of Grain Valley increased 451-percent, or more than four-and-a-half times their previous assessment, which was in 2021. A television station in Kansas City reports that Donna and Dennis McClanahan have moved to the formal appeal process with the Board of Equalization after their informal appeal Monday did not give them the desired outcome. 

After being assessed at 147-thousand dollars previously, Jackson County records have indicated that their home came in at over 650-thousand dollars. 

County Legislator Shawn Smith says senior citizens are three times more likely to have a 50-percent increase in their valuations than other age groups.
