Road closures in Jasper & Newton County beginning week of July 10th

Jasper & Newton Counties – Drivers can expect lane closures and occasional traffic delays on four routes in Jasper and Newton counties for a resurfacing project beginning the week of July 10, the Missouri Department of Transportation said.

This is where the work on this project is being done:

  • Jasper County Route M between Missouri Route 171 and Missouri Route 43 north of Joplin
  • Jasper County Route BB between Jasper County Route N and Missouri Route 96 northeast of Carthage
  • Loop 44 (Blackberry Road/High Street) between Missouri Route 37 and I-44 in Sarcoxie
  • Missouri Route 86 between I-44 and Newton County Route BB south of Joplin

Contractor crews will add an overlay of new asphalt to the above routes along with rumble strips, permanent striping and guardrail in places. In addition, the contractor also will make improvements to sidewalks, curb ramps and pedestrian areas along Loop 44 in Sarcoxie to conform to the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

Traffic impacts:

  • Traffic reduced to one lane where contractor crews are working
  • Drivers will encounter flaggers and pilot cars where crews are working. Drivers should wait for the pilot vehicle before proceeding through the work zone or before entering the work zone from a side road.
  • Work will be done during daytime hours (6 a.m.-8 p.m., Monday-Friday); all lanes open to traffic at night
  • No signed detour
  • Drivers should find alternate routes
  • Signs and message boards will alert drivers approaching the work zone
  • Check MoDOT’s Traveler Information Map for road closings/traffic impacts

Once Jasper County routes M & BB and Loop 44 are completed, the contractor will shut down for the winter and return in the spring of 2024 to complete the work on Missouri Route 86.

Weather and/or scheduling delays could alter the work schedule.
