Heat advisory for most of Missouri Thursday and Friday
Almost all of Missouri will be under a heat advisory Thursday and Friday, with southeastern portions of the state under an excessive heat warning.
The State Emergency Management Agency says heat index values on those two days will be at or above 100 degrees across Missouri, the lone exception being extreme northern counties along the Iowa border.
Heat indices above 105 degrees are forecast for Kansas City, St. Louis, Columbia, Springfield, Joplin, the Lake of the Ozarks, and surrounding areas.
Heat indices of 110 degrees and above are expected in Poplar Bluff, Cape Girardeau, just south of Jefferson City, and some rural areas of southeastern and west-central Missouri.
Check with local officials about where you can find a cooling center near you.
