Nevada, Joplin listed among top 10 most dangerous Missouri cities

A writer for Southwest Journal has compiled a new list of the top 10 most dangerous cities in Missouri, using crime data from the FBI.

One big surprise: The relatively small town of Nevada in mostly rural Vernon County was third highest on the list.

The town of just over 8,000 residents experienced 149 aggravated assaults and 9 sexual assaults, climbing over 21 points from earlier lists.

St. Louis was deemed most dangerous – no surprise there.

For the third consecutive year, Springfield, Missouri’s third-largest city, ranks as the second most dangerous place to live in the state.

Joplin was listed as eighth, due to its its high rate of property crimes, although it was deemed the least-violent city in the current top ten.
