New library rules take effect across Missouri today
It’s official, as of today.
New rules designed to shield children from inappropriate content are now in effect.
They include – libraries have to have written policies on how they select material based on age appropriateness and on allowing parents and guardians to challenge any material they feel is inappropriate.
Also, funding shall not be used to purchase materials deemed obscene, pornographic for minors, or child pornography; and library workers shall not knowingly grant minors access to any material not approved by their parents or guardians.
Any library found to violate any of these rules will lose state funding.
