Hawley continues to hold off on supporting raising the debt ceiling without higher tariffs on China

Missouri Senator Josh Hawley is continuing to push for higher tariffs against Chinese goods coming into the U-S to be included in the debt ceiling negotiations:

“If they want my support for it, that debt ceiling increase has got to include tough new tariffs on China to make sure that we can produce things in this country, that we can bring back jobs to this country, that we get good blue-collar jobs in the state of Missouri.”

Meanwhile, President Biden and House Speaker Kevin McCarthy are negotiating on a final deal to raise the country’s debt ceiling.

If it’s not raised by June First, the U-S risks defaulting on its debt and triggering a recession.
