Joplin Memorial Run draws 1,500 participants
The Joplin Memorial Run drew 1,500 participants on Saturday morning.
The JMR is an event to honor the 161 victims from the 2011 Joplin Tornado as well as to celebrate Joplin’s resilience in overcoming the destruction of 8,000 structures.
The tornado ripped across the south part of the city on May 22 of that year. Virtually all of the destroyed areas have been rebuilt, including the area near 26th and Maiden Lane where the run began this year.
The Memorial Run featured a 5K, 10K and Half-Marathon.
Winners were as follows:
5K:
Men’s: Chance Tindall, Joplin, 17:13.6
Women’s Kyla Combs, Joplin, 18:41:2
10K:
Men’s Ian Horton, Joplin, 35:45:5
Women’s: Jenna Henry, Webb City, 43:51:7
Half-Marathon
Men’s: Jaryd Gregory, Carthage, 1:20:44.1
Women’s: Lauren Creed, West Fork, Ark, 1:34:08:1
