Mother of 11 year old girl slain 12 years ago talks about Blair’s Law

There will soon be stricter penalties for firing a gun into the air within city limits in ALL Missouri cities and towns. 

Blair’s Law is designed to prevent injury and death from celebratory gunfire. 

The measure was named for 11-year-old Blair Lane, who was killed in the Kansas City area during a 4th of July party 12 years ago when a stray bullet struck her in the neck. 

Michelle Shanahan DeMoss was Blair’s mother:  “You know, I just look forward to Governor Parson signing it into law and, you know, I won’t stop educating people or having the conversation. You know, a gun is not a toy. It’s not something to be out at a party. You know, if somebody is using a gun recklessly or, you know, without any understanding of what they’re doing.”

Blair’s law would make celebratory gunfire a Class A misdemeanor for the first offense, a Class E felony the second time, and a class D felony for 3 or more offenses.
