May 4th 2003 tornadoes anniversary
20 years ago today there was a major outbreak of severe weather in the four states.
According to Steve Runnels with the Springfield National Weather Service: “2003 was one of the more memorable events when it comes to severe thunderstorms and tornadoes. There were 15 tornadoes that day including at Franklin Kansas, Carl Junction, Pierce City and Stockton, Missouri.”
Then President George Bush toured tornado damage in Lawrence County’s Pierce City a few days after the storm hit.
