Uncle Sam wants you: Today is the deadline to file your taxes

Today is the deadline for your state and federal taxes to be filed. 

Since April 15 fell on a Saturday and Monday was Emancipation Day in Washington D.C., today is the deadline to file taxes. 

The deadline to submit the return online or to mail the tax payment is midnight. 

Taxpayers who make under 73-thousand dollars can file taxes electronically with the IRS’s Free File program. 

Failure to pay and file your taxes when they are due could result in penalties, plus interest. 

Filers can still request an extension, which October 16 would be the deadline to submit the full return.
