Registration now open for youth summer camps at Pitt State

Youth will have opportunities this summer to learn about construction, robotics, and nature while having hands-on fun in academic day camps offered by Pittsburg State University. Those who are athletically inclined have opportunities to work with Pitt State coaches and staff on building skills and fundamentals. Enrollment is limited.

ACADEMIC CAMPS:

Nature Camp: June 26

Youth who have completed kindergarten and are heading to first grade this fall may attend this camp at the PSU Natural History Reserve. They will interact with live animals, go on a short hike, have a snack, and complete a nature art project. Cost: $15. Questions? Green Chemistry Camp: July 10-14 

Youth aged 16 and up, as well as interested teachers and community members, can learn about and get hands-on experience in synthesizing materials using renewable resources. The Green Chemistry Workshop will be led by working scientists at the National Institute for Materials Advancement and is free. The first of its kind, it’s a collaborative project by NIMA and Pitt State’s Chemistry Department. Questions? Adventures in Robotics I: July 11-15  

Youth ages 9 to 14 will get to explore the use of teamwork, programming, brainstorming, construction techniques, robotic basics, and electro-mechanics as they dive into the world of robotics. The camp will be held at the Kansas Technology Center and will be taught by faculty from the Department of Engineering Technology. Cost: $115. Questions? Call 620-235-4370.

Adventures in Robotics II: July 18-22  

Youth ages 9 to 14 will take their knowledge and skills to the next level as they delve deeper into the world of robotics. They should have completed Robotics I or have experience with LEGO systems. Construct Your Future I: July 11-15  

Youth ages 9 to 14 will get a fast-paced look at the materials, processes, and design methods involved in the construction industry. They’ll learn 3D building modeling, problem solving, bridge building, safety, and will build a doghouse. The camp will be held at the Kansas Technology Center and will be taught by faculty from the School of Construction. Cost: $100. Questions? Call 620-235-6555.

Construct Your Future II: July 18-22 

Youth ages 9 to 14 will take their construction skills and knowledge to the next level with building walls, pouring concrete, laying brick, and the use of GPS. The Brian Wright Youth Football Camp: June 1-2

The Brian Wright Prospect Camp: June 15

The Jen Gomez Volleyball Positional Training Clinic: June 3
