Goodman Missouri Police force resigns
The entire police force in Goodman, Missouri, says they have resigned.
In a Facebook post, Police Chief Adam Miller says every officer, full-time and reserve, submitted those resignations Wednesday, one day after a new mayor was elected.
Miller says the previous mayor, J.R. Fisher, was a huge asset for the PD and the city as a whole, but Miller claims that newly-elected mayor John Bunch and “his followers” campaigned that they were going to dismantle the department.
Bunch received 86 votes, Fisher got 70 votes.
“We at Goodman Police Department refuse to work for someone who doesn’t appreciate or supports law enforcement and threatens our jobs,” said Miller. “These officers start out at $15 an hour, with no room in the budget for pay raises, and no retirement, just a LOW hourly rate. We did it for the citizens.”
Miller says officers deserve so much more. “We as a whole at the Police Department, feel as if we made a positive impact within the community and appreciate the support that we did receive from the bottom of our hearts. Our officers were stalked, tormented, slandered and harassed while making a whopping $15-16 an hour.”
