Trans people, supporters “take it to the streets” at Joplin intersection
There was a protest in Joplin Sunday afternoon at a busy Joplin intersection in support of the transgender community.
Jamie Lindsey of Julie Joplin Media says the group opposes what they see as anti-trans legislation.
LGBTQ+ groups have condemned the MO Senate for passing SB-39.
The bill would ban transgender students from participating in school sports consistent with their gender identity
She also says the shootings of 6 people by a trans person in Nashville last week should not be a factor in judging all trans people.
“People in Joplin need to know we have trans people who exist here. They are community members,” Lindsey said.
“A lot of them are really active parts of our community,” she added. “They are tax-paying citizens. They have jobs. They contribute. They volunteer and they’re just like everyone else.”
“Supporting them is supporting Joplin,” Lindsey commented.
About 30 people took part in the demonstration at 7th and Range Line.
