Hawley sponsoring bill to revoke China’s ‘normal’ trade relations status

Missouri U-S Senator Josh Hawley is sponsoring a bill that would revoke China’s “normal” trade relations status.

He calls the decision more than two decades ago to grant China that status was one of the “stupidest” things U-S policymakers have ever done:

Hawley tells Newstalk KZRG:  “It was President Clinton and a Republican Congress that allowed China to get most favored nation status. What's happened since that went into effect? Well, we've lost millions of good paying blue-collar jobs. We have seen China's military grow four and five times in size.”

In addition to revoking China’s normal trade status, the bill would subject imports from China to higher tariffs.
