Hawley talks about his bill to ban President, Vice President from trading stock
Missouri U-S Senator Josh Hawley is promoting his bill that would ban the president, vice president, senior executive branch officials, and their spouses from playing the stock market.
Hawley said that bureaucrats should not be able to own or trade stocks in companies they’re supposed to be regulating: “And yet that’s exactly what’s happening…for the same reason, the members of Congress should not be able to own individual stocks and trade them. I don’t do it, my spouse doesn’t do it, I don’t think any member of Congress should be able to — so we ought to ban that across the board. I’ve introduced legislation that would do that.”
Hawley is also sponsoring a similar bill that would ban members of Congress from owning and trading stocks.
That one is named Preventing Elected Leaders from Owning Securities and Investments, or the PELOSI Act, after former Democratic House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.
