Sports wagering bill advances in Missouri House committee
Jefferson City, MO – Legislation to legalize sports wagering in Missouri received unanimous approval in the House Committee on Emerging Issues today.
With nearly every state bordering Missouri having legalized sports wagering, lawmakers in Jefferson City are making it a priority this session to legalize sports betting in Missouri. The bill’s sponsors, Representative Phil Christofanelli and Representative Dan Houx, hope this is the year Missouri will join its neighbors and allow for legalized sports wagering.
“There is urgency to get sports betting legalized this session,” said Rep. Phil Christofanelli (R – St. Peters). “We need to provide a legal and regulated framework for sports wagering that will help bring in millions in additional revenue to help fund our state’s priorities. We are currently losing this revenue to neighboring states who have already taken action to provide a legal avenue for sports betting.”
The bill now heads to a House Rules Committee and then onto the House floor for approval.
