Council to discuss proposal for 8-screen movie theater
Monday is President’s Day so the next Joplin City Council meeting will take place Tuesday night.
A hot topic on the agenda is a proposal by Woodsonia Real Estate for the construction of a state of the art 8-screen movie theater that would also include a bar, restaurant and arcade and family entertainment center.
The project would be part of the 32nd Street Place Development and will be located along 32nd St. at Hammons Boulevard.
B&B Theatres, which would own the proposed cinema, is the fifth largest cinema company in the United States.
The 97-year-old company is the fifth largest theater chain in the nation, owning over 500 theatres in 14 states. B&B operates cinemas in Neosho and Monett and the Kansas City Power and Light District and numerous other locations in Missouri.
The Council will also be discussing housing revitalization in Joplin during the meeting.
The meeting gets underway at 6 p.m. Tuesday night in Council Chambers at City Hall at 602 S. Main Street.
