Nevada 3M plant lays off 43 workers
More than 40 workers have been recently laid off from the 3M plant in Nevada, Missouri.
“3M is taking decisive actions to position the company for continued growth, while also adjusting to the challenging macroeconomic environment,” said Jennifer Ehrlich, with 3M Communications. “At the 3M Nevada plant, 43 employees were impacted by workforce reductions. As we prioritize our investments and resources, we will be adjusting on an ongoing basis the roles and responsibilities needed for future growth.”
The largest employer in Vernon County still employs over 700 employees, but one KZRG listener claims more layoffs could be coming soon.
“They have cut my husbands hours back drastically, leaving us in a bind. With mortgage and a new baby on the way, we are barely making it. I know several others relate. People who have worked for this company for over 10, 15+ years have lost their job leaving them clueless on what to do or where to go,” they wrote to Newstalk KZRG.
“Many walked out of that building with tears in their eyes and a fear for their families future. They were dedicated employees to 3M. People are absolutely outraged. I, and many others want to hear 3M’s response, does this company even care about their employees like they say they do? We want answers.”
The listener claims that over 180 people have been tragically laid off recently. We’ve reached out to 3M for comment.
PlantServices reports much larger layoffs from the company as well, stating 3M plans to cut 2,500 manufacturing jobs. According to the news source, 3M’s sales are down as demand for consumer and electronic products cools. In addition, 3M is also currently facing two lawsuits related to earplugs that turned out to be defective and 3M’s use of forever chemicals in its products
