Friday morning accident seriously injures driver from Jasper

A man from Jasper was injured in an accident on Missouri 59 in Fidelity around 6:15 Friday morning.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the crash occurred when a northbound car driven by 48-year-old Kevin J. Smith of Jasper went out of control while trying to overtake another vehicle.

Smith lost control of his vehicle, skidded across the median and across the southbound lands, struck a guardrail, traveled down an embankment and struck multiple trees.

Smith was seriously injured.

He was transported to a Joplin hospital.
