Pedestrian dies while walking on I-44 in Springfield

A pedestrian was hit and killed by a pickup truck in Springfield Monday.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred when an eastbound 2004 Chevy Silverado pickup operated by 57-year-old Charles F. Vaughn of Republic struck 53-year-old Craig A. Griffitts of Oroville, California while he was walking on I-44 near the West Bypass.

The accident happened around 4:40 Monday morning.

Griffitts was pronounced dead at the scene at 12:47 p.m. by the Greene County Medical Examiner.
