Cherokee County Sheriff’s office detained a Georgia homicide suspect in Baxter Springs. Following the arrest they released the following press statement:
“Cherokee County Communications received a call from the Henry County Sheriff’s Office in Georgia, reference to a subject that had multiple warrants out of their county and was possibly in Baxter Springs. The offender was a juvenile who had warrants out of Henry County Georgia for Felony Murder, Homicide by vehicle in 1st degree, Fleeing or Attempting to Elude a Police Officer for Felony Offense, Felony Theft, and multiple traffic charges. Information was obtained that led officers to believe the juvenile suspect was in a residence located at 1332 Park in Baxter Springs.
During the course of the investigation an adult female, who was identified as Denise Wimmer, age 60, of Baxter Springs was contacted at the residence. Wimmer initially stated that the juvenile suspect was in the residence, but became uncooperative with officers and was detained at the scene. Attempts were made to contact the juvenile suspect, however he would not exit the house. A perimeter was established around the residence with assistance from members of the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office, while detectives worked to obtain a search warrant for the residence.
Officers continued making verbal requests for the juvenile suspect to exit the residence. After approximately 3 hours the juvenile exited the residence and was taken into custody without incident. The juvenile suspect was transported to a Juvenile Detention Facility in Girard, KS and is awaiting extradition to Henry County Georgia.
Denise Wimmer was transported to the Cherokee County Jail where she was booked for Felony Interference with Law Enforcement and Aiding a Felon. She is also being held for the Georgia State Patrol pending formal charges from their prosecutor.”
