Independence Police respond to hostage incident
The Independence Police Department (IPD) is investigating a hostage incident in the 200 block of West Magnolia.
This morning (Friday) at 2:56 a.m., officers responded to a 911 hang-up in the 200 block of West Magnolia. Officers spoke with a female who was with one adult and one juvenile male.
Officers had difficulty communicating and called a translation service as the two males went back in the home. Officers learned through a translator that her boyfriend, one of the males inside, had cut her face then stabbed her in the abdomen and leg. The knife wounds did not appear serious.
Officers could not get the suspect to come out and the suspect would not allow the juvenile male to leave. Police blocked off the area and requested the Kansas Highway Patrol Special Response Team (SRT). KHP negotiators spoke with suspect, and he released the hostage and surrendered peacefully at 8:55 am.
Police arrested Antonio Lopez Samayoa, 31 year-old male of Independence.
Samayoa is being held in the Montgomery County Jail on charges of aggravated domestic battery, criminal threat, and kidnapping.
