Cherokee County accident leaves one person dead
A crash in Cherokee County along the Missouri to Kansas line late Thursday night has left one person dead.
The Kansas Highway Patrol (KHP) says the wreck occurred at 1571 SE Bagdad Road or 1.1 Miles East from SE 107th Terrace.
The accident took place around 11:15 p.m. Thursday night when a westbound vehicle went off Baghdad Road to the north and stuck a tree.
Killed was the driver, 21-year-old Asthy Zarrad of Miami, Oklahoma.
An occupant, 59-year-old Benster Syne of Miami, was not injured.
Syne contacted authorities shortly before 7 a.m. Friday morning to tell them he had been involved in the accident but was unsure about the location.
The KHP reports that Zarrad’s body has been transported to Kansas City to undergo an autopsy.
