Murder victims identified after Baxter shooting

The victims from Monday’s fatal shooting in Baxter Springs, Kansas, have been identified.

The Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office says 47-year-old Jeremy Murphy of Anderson, Missouri, and 59-year-old Craig Guinn of Pineville, were found shot and were pronounced dead at the scene.

27-year-old Seth Guinn, also of Pineville, was found wounded at the scene. He was transported to a Joplin hospital and is in critical condition.

Authorities say officers were called around 2:40 Monday afternoon after gunshots were heard coming from inside a home in the 2400 block of Lincoln Ave.

Officers arrived on the scene and immediately began life-saving measures on the three victims that had been shot. A description of the suspect was immediately put out to responding officers.

As officers were coming into the area, they located the suspect, 41-year-old Kyle Butts of Independence, Missouri, walking in the area.

He was taken into custody after a brief struggle with officers. He’s being held on capital murder charges in the Cherokee County Jail.
