Suspect arrested in connection with shooting incident

The Boone County, Missouri Sheriff’s Office Facebook page says on Friday, Nov. 25, at around 11:00 a.m. a subject fired multiple shots into a multi-residence structure in Columbia which resulted in property damage but no injuries.

The suspect was then witnessed by numerous people fleeing the scene in a vehicle.

Probable cause was developed to identify the suspect as Nicholas Dean Brunda, age 39 of Columbia. Information developed during the investigation indicated Brunda had made threats toward a person who lives at one of the residences.

Based on the shooting incident, probable cause was developed to arrest Brunda on charges of Assault 1st Degree or Attempt; Unlawful Use of a Weapon; Armed Criminal Action; Assault-4th Degree.

Friday evening, Brunda was stopped by the deputy and arrested. He was found to be in possession of an altered short barrel shotgun. Brunda was arrested for the charges related to shooting incident that morning as well as charges of Unlawful Possession of a Firearm and Unlawful Possession, Transport, Manufacture, Repair or Sale of Certain Weapons.

The Boone County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office filed charges and a warrant was issued for Brunda with no bond allowed.

Brunda is currently being held in the Boone County Jail.
