Volunteer fair planned at MSSU

Joplin, MO – A student-led Service Fair will be offered from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 9, in Billingsly Student Center at Missouri Southern State University.

A variety of nonprofit organizations will have booths available, where the campus community can learn about volunteer opportunities in the area. The event was created as an Honors program service project by Elizabeth Martin, a sophomore biology pre-med major.

“I thought this would be a good way to show our students the possibilities out there for them to get involved,” she said. “It’s like a job fair, but for volunteers.”

The organizations being represented will include the Ronald McDonald House of the Four States, the Joplin Humane Society, and the George A. Spiva Center for the Arts, said Martin.

Other events planned for the week of Nov. 7 include Veterans Week activities, the final Czech Film Festival selection, Mass Band Day, and a performance by the Southern Symphony Orchestra.
