Halloween events offered at Missouri Southern
Safe Halloween event for kids included on Monday
Joplin, MO – A trio of spooktacular events are planned for Halloween at Missouri Southern State University, including an opportunity for the community to enjoy a safe celebration.
Other activities planned for the week of Oct. 31 include Czech Semester events and an artist’s talk for the current exhibit featured in the Spiva Art Gallery.
Monday, Oct. 31
“Searching for Ghosts: A Journey through the History, Mysteries, and Haunted Places of Prague”: 11 a.m., Webster Hall’s Corley Auditorium. The lecture will be presented by Michele Patrick, author of “Haunted Prague: Stories of Spirits, Sorcerers, and the Supernatural.”
Dia De Los Muertos celebration: 1 p.m., Kuhn Hall Room 201. Celebrate the Day of the Dead with sugar skull and cookie decoration.
Safe Halloween: 5:30 p.m., Billingsly Student Center’s Connor Ballroom. The event will include games, a candy station, pumpkin decorating, and a screening of “Hocus Pocus.”
Tuesday, Nov. 1
Grocery Bingo, 12:20 p.m., Lions Den in Billingsly Student Center. Students can play to win prizes.
Volleyball vs. Central Missouri: 6 p.m., Leggett & Platt Athletic Center.
“Autumn Spring”: 7 p.m., Plaster Hall’s Cornell Auditorium. The Czech Film Festival selection was released in 2001 and tells the story of an old man who refuses to grow up and instead spends his days drinking and playing pranks on his friends.
Wednesday, Nov. 2
Stuff a Lion: 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m., Billingsly Student Center. Students can create a stuffed lion with a tie-dye shirt.
“Visions” Artist Talk: 6 p.m., Webster Hall’s Corley Auditorium. Tammy Harrington is a printmaker and paper-cut artist who imbues the cross-cultural influences of Chinese and American culture into figurative compositions. Reception to follow at 7 p.m. in the Spiva gallery.
Thursday, Nov. 3
“Being a Memory” – English translation readings from the Czech Lands: 7 p.m., Cornell Auditorium. This event highlights Czechia’s literary traditions from poetry to drama, fairy tales to science fiction, 19th century novels to contemporary works and more.
