MSSU to host fun Halloween events!
Joplin, MO – A Safe Halloween event will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 31, in Billingsly Student Center’s Connor Ballroom at Missouri Southern State University.
The event – sponsored by Residence Life and the Campus Activities Board – will include children’s games/activities, candy station, pumpkin decorating, and a cakewalk. A screening of “Hocus Pocus” will be offered at 6 p.m.
“It’s an opportunity to have our students and their families engaging with the community,” said Ryan Orcutt, director of student engagement and Global Leaders. “We want to do it bigger and better than before by giving families a wonderful evening of fun and excitement for all ages in a safe environment.”
The event is free and open to the campus and community.
The Spanish Club will also be hosting celebrations in honor of Dia de los Muertos – or “Day of the Dead” – at 1 p.m. Monday, Oct. 31, in Room 201 of Kuhn Hall.
As a way to remember those who have passed, the Spanish Club encourages those who plan to attend to bring pictures of loved ones and their favorite snacks to place on the “ofrenda” in Kuhn Hall’s main lobby. The event will also include cookies and candy skull decorating.
“We really wanted to hold this event to promote Hispanic culture as well as the Spanish Club on campus,” said Millie Dorman, senior management major and president of Spanish Club. “We set up this altar every year for Dia de los Muertos but this year we thought it would be fun to have an event for the holiday.”
