Church, building supply business destroyed in Carthage Fire
A major fire in Carthage last night destroyed the better part of a city block including a business and a church.
Fire crews were called after the blaze broke out around 7:45 p.m. in the Henson Metal Building Supply Business on Central. Soon, the fire spread to Casa de Sanidad, a church attended by numerous Hispanic families.
Both were destroyed. The fire included most of the block between Howard and Grant from east to west and Central to almost 2nd street from north to south.
The State Fire Marshall’s office has been called in to investigate the cause of the fire.
There are no reports of injuries.
Fire Departments from Carthage, Webb City, Duenweg, Avilla, Jasper and Neosho responded to the blaze which was intense and took several hours to contain.
