Webb City school goes into lockdown amid fears of suspicious individuals with strange box
Two unidentified and suspicious men were walking near a Webb City school carrying suspicious boxes that had images of assault rifles on it.
According to the school district the Franklin Student Center went into lock down as a precaution. The Webb city school district released this statement on their Facebook page:
“Today at approximately 11:00 am Franklin Student Center went into a lockdown situation due to two unidentified individuals walking toward the school that were in possession of a suspicious box with images of an assault rifle. The administration quickly contacted local law enforcement who immediately secured the building and made sure that all students and staff were safe. The two individuals were detained by the Webb City Police Department for questioning. After an initial investigation, it was determined that the box contained an airsoft rifle that was purchased earlier this morning. We would like to recognize the swift response by the Webb City Police Department and the Jasper County Sheriff’s Department as well as our students and staff for implementing protocols to keep everyone safe.”
Police arrived on the scene to do wellness checks and ensure the safety of all those present. The officers questioned the two suspicious individuals and confirmed that the box contained an airsoft rifle they had recently purchased.
