Join the Pittsburg Multigenerational Choir at PSU for some jazz classics and big band favorites

On Wednesday October 19th the the Pittsburg Multigenerational Chorus is retuning to the Bicknell Family Center for the Arts for a concert. Their, “It’s a Swing Thing,” is a show featuring jazz standards and Big Band favorites.

The choir will be accompanied by the Crossroads Jazz Orchestra, directed by PSU Professor of Music Todd Hastings and including current and former PSU music students and faculty.

The chorus was founded in 2009 by Pittsburg High School music teacher Susan Laushman, a graduate of the PSU music education program.

It is comprised of a blend of community members ranging in age from 14 to 90, including several PSU faculty, staff, and students, as well as PHS students and teachers, and parents and grandparents of PHS students. They have rehearsed together twice a week at PHS since school began in August.

“We’re excited to have another year together participating in MultiGen as a family,” said Vice President of Student Life Steve Erwin, who is singing this year alongside his wife, Lori (a mental health counselor at PSU) and their two sons, Keller and Jaxx. “Sharing this experience in such a fun and energetic performance is a wonderful time. We hope to see a great audience at the concert!”

The concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the Linda & Lee Scott Performance Hall at the Bicknell Family Center for the Arts. The house will open for seating at 7 p.m.

The concert is free and open to the public; donations will be accepted at the door to help support the program.
