Shooting in Joplin after police initiated a traffic stop
On the evening of October 6th at 9:30 the Joplin Police Department officers received information regarding a possible intoxicated driver on 7th street in Joplin.
Officers responded to the area, located the vehicle that had been described, and attempted to initiate a traffic stop. The driver failed to yield to officers and fled in the vehicle southbound on Schifferdecker Ave.
As the driver continued south, tire deflation spikes were successfully deployed, and the driver fired two gunshots at pursuing officers before stopping the vehicle. The driver refused to exit the vehicle and fired an additional gunshot at officers while attempting to put the vehicle back in motion for some time. The Joplin PD SWAT team responded, and the driver then complied with commands and exited the vehicle, where he was taken into custody without further incident.
The suspect driver is identified as Jonathan A. Green, 32 years of age of Maumelle, AR. Charges have been submitted for 1st Degree Assault on Law Enforcement, Armed Criminal Action, and Resisting Arrest (Felony) to the Jasper County Prosecutor’s Office. Neither the suspect nor any officers were injured.
