Voter registration and new law featured on MSSU program
Joplin, MO – The MSSU television program “Newsmakers” will bring focus to voter registration and new regulations requiring voters to bring a photo ID to the polls on Election Day, November 8.
Southern students writing for the campus newspaper, The Chart, investigated voting habits of their fellow college students. They share their results and reactions from students about current issues on the ballot and the challenge of getting young voters to the polls.
Jasper County Clerk Charlie Davis and Newton County Clerk Tami Owens join the conversation discussing voter turnout and Missouri’s new law requiring a photo ID to vote.
Professor William Delehanty adds perspective on the attitudes of young voters and the effectiveness of strategies like student loan forgiveness in drawing them to the polls.
The show will begin airing nightly at 5 and 9 p.m. the week of October 2 and will be broadcast at 5:30 a.m. Saturday, October 8, on KOAM-TV. It is also posted on the station’s YouTube channel – KGCS Missouri Southern.
KCGS programming can be seen on channel 21 and is also available on some regional cable television systems.
