Missouri Prosecuting Attorneys Oppose Legalizing Recreational Marijuana

A major law enforcement group in Missouri is officially taking sides against the proposed constitutional amendment that would legalize recreational marijuana use.

The Missouri Association of Prosecuting Attorneys is urging Missouri voters to vote “no” on Amendment Three.

The group published a position paper it says is based on how Colorado has been impacted by legal recreational marijuana use.

It cites a 138-percent increase in traffic fatalities in Colorado involving drivers impaired by cannabis.

The group also says Amendment Three does not set a maximum limit of cannabis in the bloodstream while current state law sets a zero-point-oh-eight limit for alcohol, and it would not bar continued marijuana use for those sentenced to take part in drug treatment courts.

Missouri voters will decide Amendment Three in November.
