More DNA sought from remains of possible massacre victims

TULSA, Okla. (AP) – Scientists are planning to extract more DNA from the remains of possible Tulsa Race Massacre victims and test two more areas as potential sites to search for more remains.

The committee overseeing the project was told Tuesday night that remains found last year and temporarily reburied in Oaklawn Cemetery will be exhumed for additional DNA samples in an effort to identify them.

The remains will then be reburied in the same location.

State archaeologist Kary Stackelbeck and forensic anthropologist Phoebe Stubblefield said scientists will also conduct soil testing at two sites along the Arkansas River where victims of the 1921 massacre were believed to have been buried in mass graves.
