MSSU extends Sports Medicine Program contract with Freeman Health System

MSSU’s Board has voted to extend its Sports Medicine Program contract with Joplin’s Freeman Health System for more than a decade

The decision was made following a special conference call meeting of the MSSU Board of Governors on Sept. 1st.

The  extended agreement agrees to maintain Freeman Health System as the exclusive provider for sports medicine and orthopedic care for MSSU athletics.

The original agreement, which began in 2014, would have expired in 2024. The agreement has now been extended for 12 total years until 2034.

The extended agreement also includes Freeman Health System’s financial commitment to MSSU, including its financial support for sports medicine staffing, advertising rights, event tickets and marketing opportunities at athletic events.

Freeman will continue to be an equal access health care provider for MSSU faculty and staff.

The motion passed with 7 yes votes. MSSU Board Member Carlos Haley, who works at Freeman Health System, abstained.
