Pittsburg students work to provide food to those in need

Last year, PSU Enactus – a student-led entrepreneurism organization – took a leadership role with The Community Garden at the First Christian Church to revitalize it and bring it back to life.

Located at 705 Centennial Drive, it was established in 2009 and in its early days went from donating over 4,000 pounds of fresh produce to Wesley House to more than 10,000 pounds in 2012.

This Thursday, about 12 Enactus members and their recruits will start breaking ground to plant a fall garden, with plans for a spring and summer garden in 2023.

Produce will be donated to The Lord’s Diner. at 406 N. Locust in Pittsburg.

That Pittsburg location outreach program provides meals to the Frontenac, Arma and Arcadia.

The Diner’s singular mission is to serve a nutritious meal with dignity and respect to anyone who is hungry.
