Joplin’s Ozarko Tire Warehouse goes up in flames
Last night at around 8 o’clock the Joplin Fire department received reports of smoke coming from the Ozarko Tire Warehouse located behind the Pilot Travel Plaza on Mo-43.
Joplin Fire, Police, and EMS arrived on the scene to find the building fully engulfed in flames. MoDOT closed several roads around the site of the fire to limit foot traffic as firefighters battled to get it under control. Employees of the warehouse reported that as much as 1,000 new tires were inside the building at the time of the fire and were likely destroyed in the blaze.
As Joplin fire attempted to subdue the flames they called Reddings Mill, Carl Junction and Duneweg fire departments for support.
The cause of the fire is unknown at this time and is under investigation.
