Joplin City Council to set real property tax levy
The Joplin City Council will hold a special meeting Monday night.
The purpose of the meeting will be to approve the real property tax levy for the City of Joplin for the upcoming year.
If all goes as expected the City will accept the amount calculated utilizing the State Auditor’s worksheet which will represent no change in the City property tax fee from the previous year. The library rate will increase very slightly as set for by Missouri statute.
The formula would mean a home with an assessed valuation of $100,000 will increase from $79.78 to $79.90 cents for both the city and the library portion of the property tax.
Property tax rates must be set by the end of August by state statute.

The meeting will begin at 6 p.m. in Council Chambers in City Hall at 602 S. Main.
