Missouri Southern State University’s big welcome week!
Joplin, MO – A busy week of activities is planned as the Fall 2022 semester gets underway at Missouri Southern State University.
Incoming students and their families will learn about Missouri Southern and hear from members of the faculty and administration during the annual Freshman Convocation ceremony at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 20, in the Leggett & Platt Athletic Center. It will be followed by a social at 3:30 p.m. in Young Gym.
Campus Craze will be held at 5 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 21, on the Oval. Students will have the opportunity to meet with representatives from registered student organizations and learn how they can get involved.
Other activities will include a reception for a student art exhibit, the annual Welcome Week picnic and a preview concert by the Lion Pride Marching Band.
Monday, Aug. 22: Welcome Picnic: 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., on the Oval. The annual picnic will offer a free lunch for students, faculty and staff.
“Five Stars” reception: 4 to 6 p.m., Spiva Gallery. The reception is for the student artists who contributed to the exhibit, which features works inspired by their trip to the Czech Republic. The exhibit will run through Sept. 1. Gallery hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday.
Tuesday, Aug. 23: Free doughnuts and coffee: 7:30 to 9:30 a.m., Lion’s Den in Billingsly Student Center. Students are invited to stop by to grab a bite to eat and a cup of coffee on their way to class.
Wednesday, Aug. 24: Community Day: 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., on the Oval. Sponsored by Career Services, students can visit with representatives from area businesses and non-profits, sample products and explore job and volunteer opportunities.
Friday, Aug. 26: Darryl Bellamy – First Year Fearless: 2 p.m., Webster Hall’s Corley Auditorium. Presented by the Global Leaders and First Year Experience programs, Bellamy’s presentation will focus on how students can thrive despite feelings of fear, worry and anxiety.
Saturday, Aug. 27: Lion Pride Marching Band Preview Concert: 6 p.m., Parking Lot 18 (the large lot directly south of Fred Hughes Stadium).
