Joplin Schools teachers, staff to take part in Opening Day Ceremony

Joplin Schools will host its all-staff back-to-school Opening Day Ceremony as an in-person event for the first time since COVID-19 considerations changed the landscape of large group gatherings.

The event will be held from 8:00 to 9:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 17, in the Performing Arts Center at Joplin High School, 2104 Indiana Ave.

The event is designed for school personnel. It is not open to the public.

All personnel – including teachers, administrators and classified staff – will gather for the morning in a high-energy celebration of the new school year, including an all-district address by Joplin Schools’ new superintendent, Dr. Kerry Sachetta.

City, civic and political leaders are anticipated to be in attendance, as well as Board of Education members and representatives from Joplin Schools’ partnering organizations. The ceremony will be followed by a full day of professional development opportunities for certified staff.
