Downtown Black History & Performing Arts Mural has a new unveiling date
Joplin, Missouri – The Langston Hughes Cultural Society worked in tandem with Joplin city government commission the Downtown Black History & Performing Arts Mural located at the intersection of 1st and Main St. Joplin citizens and lovers of art was supposed to witness the unveiling of the mural last month but due to poor weather conditions the event was postponed.
The unveiling has now been rescheduled for Sunday, September 18th from 2-4 pm. Along with the unveiling the artist behind the beautiful mural, Alexander Austin, will be there to sign autographs and speak with attendees. He will also have locally influenced paintings available for sale to the public. This will be a fun and educational Street Party with music, refreshments, and historical information about the mural subjects. Special guests include Mr. Charles McPherson (via video) and Joplin Mayor pro-tem, Keenan Cortez.
