Joplin Proposition Public Safety fails

A proposition to create a property tax to fund police and fire wage increases has failed in the city of Joplin.

4,643 (56.4%) voted against it, and 3,586 (43.6%) voting for it.

The measure would have implemented a $1.00 tax for every $100 of assessed value on all real and personal property.

It’s unclear where the city goes from here as the need for funding our police and fire will continue.

The city has seen an alarming amount of officers and firefighters leave over the past decade due to low wages and other issues.
