Joplin’s “Meet the Artist” event has been postponed due to inclement weather
Along with a series of other community events this Saturday Joplin was supposed to meet Alexander Austin, the artist behind Joplin’s Downtown Black History & Performing Arts Mural located at the intersection of 1st and Main St. The event which would have allowed attendees to speak with the artist as well as get autographs and photos has been canceled.
Unfortunately, due to sudden and unrelenting rain the event hosted by The Langston Hughes Cultural Society decided to postpone the meet and greet.
The Langston Hughes Cultural Society’s secretary Don Clarke said that while they are disappointed they had to cancel the event they are, “planning a much larger event in conjunction with Connect2Culture and other local organizations to bring national attention to this outstanding art work, with potential invitees including descendants of the figures on the mural, as well as important dignitaries such as the Governor.”
The date for the new event is still to be determined by the society but as of now they suspect it will likely occur sometime in late September.
