Assault, armed criminal action charges filed against Joplin man after shooting
A 42-year-old man from Joplin is facing assault and armed criminal action charges after a shooting on July 16 in south Joplin.
Joplin Police say Richard E. McWhirt shot 34-year-old Gregory A. Hallstrom early that Saturday morning at a home at 3424 S. Finley Avenue.
Hallstrom has since been treated and released from the hospital.
On Monday, the Newton County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office filed charges for Assault in the 1st Degree and Armed Criminal Action against McWhirt.
On Thursday, a Detective Sergeant with JPD located McWhirt near the area of 30th and Rangeline. Officers responded to the area and set up a perimeter and were able to take McWhirt into custody without incident.
McWhirt is currently being held in the Joplin City Jail with no bond.
The investigation is still continuing and further updates may be released as more information becomes available.
