Joplin Police release video footage of March 8 fatal shooting
The Joplin Police Department has released video footage of a deadly officer-involved shooting that took place March 8 which claimed the lives of Corporal Ben Cooper and Officer Jake Reed, and seriously injured Officer Rick Hirshey.
Police Chief Sloan Rowland says the release of this requested footage is required by Missouri’s Sunshine law. He says the Missouri State Highway Patrol completed their investigation last month and turned it over to the Jasper County Prosecutor’s office.
Rowland stated that the prosecutor’s office reviewed the footage and determined that Captain William Davis was justified in fatally shooting the assailant, stopping his deadly rampage.
Rowland said the suspect, Anthony Felix, bought the gun he used from “a local individual” who had purchased it legally. “He was a convicted felon and could not possess a weapon. That’s been turned over and there is an ongoing investigation concerning that,” stated Rowland.
