Joplin Police investigate crash involving sheriff vehicle, motorized bicycle

Joplin Police are investigating a crash involving a Newton County Sheriff patrol vehicle and a motorized bicycle. Read the full press release below:

On July 7, 2022, at approximately 0202 hours, Joplin Police responded to a traffic crash east of the intersection of 32nd street and Connecticut avenue. The crash involved a Newton County Sheriff patrol vehicle and a subject riding a motorized bicycle. The patrol vehicle was eastbound on 32nd street in the outside lane when it rear-ended the motorized bicycle, which was also eastbound in the outside lane.

The subject on the bicycle was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries. The names are withheld at this time due to the accident being under investigation. The Joplin Police Department Traffic Team responded to the crash scene and is currently working the investigation.

The Newton County Sheriff’s Office says the deputy was responding to a burglary alarm call.
