College World Series Recap
The College World Series has officially come to a close. Ole Miss has won the 2022 National Championship, defeating Oklahoma in the first two games of the three-game series. With that being said, lets recap the 2022 postseason.
This year’s tournament was exciting from beginning to end. From Cinderella runs to top teams being eliminated left and right, this year’s tournament was packed full of excitement. The top few seeds had enough on their hands as early as their regionals with five of the top sixteen seeds not making it out of regionals, despite being on their home fields. The energy remained the same in super regionals as six of the top ten seeds were eliminated including top overall seed Tennessee.
This year set new benchmarks in a variety of ways including viewership, attendance, and on the field action. Viewership was up across the country as local teams were playing on the biggest of stages nearly every night for the last two months. We saw multiple host sites set records for attendance. Some sites even went took this to the next level by setting the record multiple times in the same weekend. The fans in attendance and watching from home were not let down as the action on the field lived up to the hype. Whether it was crazy defensive plays, outstanding pitching performances, or offenses putting up literally hundreds of runs in the span of a weekend; some of the best baseball you could ever watch took place this summer.
With all of that being said, it wouldn’t be fair to write this without giving credit to the champions. Ole Miss encapsulated this entire tournament with their story. Their year was full of drama as there was talk of firing their head coach, Mike Bianca, numerous times throughout the season. Bianca and his team silenced the critics who came after them all year. They were the last team let into the tournament on selection Sunday and now are the final team standing on the last Sunday of the year. Pretty poetic if you think about it.
Congratulations to Ole Miss on their outstanding season. They will have a few days to celebrate and then it is on to next year. I am beyond excited for college baseball to return next Spring.
